Racewalking, or race walking, is a long-distance athletic event. Although it is a foot race, it is different from running in that one foot must appear to be in contact with the ground at all times. Stride length is reduced, so to achieve competitive speeds, racewalkers must attain cadence rates comparable to those achieved by Olympic 400-meter runners—and they must do so for hours at a time since the Olympic events are the 20 kilometer race walk and 50-kilometer (31 mi) race walk. From Google News Search: "racewalking" what are the rules for racewalking? Q. and why do the men look so gay doing it? Asked by oh crap - Sat Aug 16 19:27:50 2008 - - 2 Answers - 0 Comments A. There are two rules that govern racewalking. The first dictates that the athlete's back toe cannot leave the ground until the heel of the front foot has touched. Violation of this rule is known as loss of contact. The second rule requires that the supporting leg must straighten from the point of contact with the ground and remain straightened until the body passes over it. These rules are judged by the human eye, which creates controversy at today's high speeds. Athletes may sometimes lose contact for a few milliseconds per stride which can be caught on high-speed film, but such a short flight phase is undetectable to the human eye. Athletes stay low to the ground by keeping their arms pumping low, close to their hips. If one sees a… [cont.] Answered by Jenny C - Sat Aug 16 19:34:19 2008 lump on my shin after racewalking? Q. So today I had a track meet and I do the race walk. Today, I got my best time (11:35.. i know its bad but whatever).. right after that i was kneeling down and i felt my right shin and there was a lump there.. it wasn't small, it was a little bigger than a quarter. it doesn't hurt at all, but it's just there. should I be worried about anything? Asked by lifesajokex - Thu Apr 23 20:44:53 2009 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments A. Idk what it could be, but it could just be a temporary thing. I would ice it then heat it, ice it then heat it, and so on for an hour everyday until it gets better. If that doesn't work, wait until it goes away in a couple of days. If it doesn't go away, go to a doctor. But it should go away. Answered by Just me! - Thu Apr 23 21:47:36 2009 Shouldn't "racewalking" be called "slowrunning"?
Q. I seen this event late last night on USA network and I found it to be very entertaining. I felt like they weren't walking at all. It looked to me like they were running slow yet it seemed fast too. Asked by jo P - Sat Aug 16 19:11:07 2008 - - 4 Answers - 0 Comments A. One foot has to be on the ground at all times - not like running where often both feet have left the ground.
