A sidewalk (chiefly North American English), pavement (British English, South African English and Philadelphia dialect), footpath (Australian English, Irish English, Indian English and New Zealand English), platform (chiefly Indian English) or footway (Engineering term) is a path for pedestrians that is situated alongside a road or a paved pathway (such as a concrete footpath through a park). A sidewalk may accommodate moderate changes in grade. However, "walkway" is a more complete term for support of walking, and includes stairs, ramps, paseos (passageways) and related off-street tools that provide for a developed pathway. Sometimes, a sidewalk is next to its street or road with perhaps only a curb in between. Sometimes, there is an area called a parkway or tree lawn in between the sidewalk and the street. For a photo showing a parkway, see image "Sidewalk in Oak Park, Illinois" in the gallery below. From Wikipedia under the

Q. I don't understand why people run in the road when there is a sidewalk right there next to them. I see this all the time, even at night. I'll almost run someone over because they are jogging in the road, instead of on the sidewalk. Why do people do this? Don't they realize they could be hit by a car? Wow! Thanks for all the great answers! It's going to be tough choosing the best one! I really appreciate all the different viewpoints! Awesome! Yes it is more dangerous but the reason they do it is because blacktop has more give than concrete sidewalks so it is a little less impact. The difference is probably insignificant though in relationship to the danger. Answered by SunFun - Sat Nov 25 19:19:41 2006 How do city people walk their dogs and keep them from pooing on the sidewalk? Q. I have always lived in country-like areas and was always wondering how people in the city walk their dogs and where they walk them. I want several dogs when I move out and I want to socalize them properly and you can't really do that on a country road. Also, if/when your dog(s)poops on the sidewalk, how do you clean it up, I know people use dog bags but where do you keep the bags, in your pocket(before use!)? Where do you put the bag of poo? BTW I have owned dogs before and we currently do own one, I've just never seen how people walk their dogs in a city. Thanks for all your quick responses! A couple of people said they take their dogs to the park, when your dog messes there, do you have to clean it up? What if you don't notice… [cont.] Asked by offlights - Thu May 24 11:59:29 2007 - - 15 Answers - 0 Comments A. I'm pretty sure ANY dog will just poop if it needs to go enough, so there's nothing special about any of these other people and their pooches lol. Keep the plastic bags in your pocket. When you pick up the poo, you just have to carry it until you come across a trash can. Thanks for being concerned about it! Answered by squishie bug - Thu May 24 12:02:38 2007 How do I keep my lawn mower level when mowing the grass between the sidewalk and the curb?
Q. I have bermudagrass in my front yard, and I like to let it grow rather high. The problem I have is when mowing the strip of grass between the sidewalk and th ecurb, I always end up with an uneven cut because the lawn mower is cutting at an angle. In other words, the lawn mower is not wide enough to completely straddle the grass with both wheels on the sidewalk, so it causes an uneven cut. Any tricks to make it look more even and clean?? Asked by Mad dad - Thu Jul 5 10:16:56 2007 - - 5 Answers - 0 Comments A. I have the same problem. I typcially make one pass with the wheels up on the curb and antoher with them just inside the curb to minimize the effect.
